How Can I Add Type to a Shape in InDesign?

Last Updated: Dec 30, 2011 02:27PM PST
Text can be added to any shape you create in InDesign like so:

  1. Draw a shape with the RectangleEllipsePolygon or Pen tool.
  2. Select the Type tool.
  3. Click inside the shape with the Type tool and start typing--the text fills the shape. Text may also be imported into a shape by selecting File > Place.
  4. Change the font, size or leading by highlighting the text and using the Character panel/palette or Control panel/palette.
